October, 2007

Well, this summer has been very busy for the Uke'aholics members.  Performances, practices, kanikapila (Hawaiian jam sessions), casual jamming, visits to other Oregon ukulele clubs, and more...have kept everyone jumping.

Unfortunately, during this period, we had to cancel or reschedule a couple of months' meetings to accommodate our personal and group activities.  We may have missed some folks investigating the group...and for that we're sorry.  We should have known that the Summer Season is also Ukulele Season!

As we ease into the Fall, we have plans to get back on track with the monthly meetings on the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month.  Note that we're switching our meeting time and place.  Please check back here before October for more specific information.

Though we have gained many new techniques for practicing and performing this Summer, there is still a lot of ground that we need to cover regarding our musicianship.  If that sounds like something you would be interested in, by all means come join us at the Uke'aholics Monthly Meeting.

- Wiley (Uke'aholic and SUSA Webmaster) -

What's coming up for the Uke'aholics?

Attending - Uketoberfest 2007
Downtown Eugene, Oregon and various venues in Eugene.
It's an all-day event on October 27th, 2007
Check here for more information about time and place.

Kanikapila (Hawaiian Jam Session) in Eugene the second Friday of each month.
Next is November 9th at 7:00 PM!
Our Savior Lutheran Church
2200 Coburg Rd, Eugene, OR 97401

$3 donation. Usually some type of lesson 7-7:30. Song circle begins at 7:30. Potluck usually around 8:30 then return to playing until late--11ish. You don't have to bring something to eat or drink, but it would be nice.

The He Mele Aloha songbook is used. Probably 80% of songs are sung in Hawaiian. Usually there is an extra copy or two around, or you can look on at someone's book. Wiley has a disk with most of the melodies.  See him for the availability of the book and a disc.

If you want to carpool from Albany, meet Wiley in the Albany Kmart parking lot in front of Taco Bell at 6:00 PM sharp.  From Salem, take the first exit into Albany (exit 234B) from I-5.  Kmart is on the left (South side.)

Directions to the church from Salem:

Take I-5 South to exit 195B  (AKA "The Beltline Hwy") then West - toward Junction City/Florence.

Take Coburg Rd exit  -  Turn left on Coburg Rd and go under the Beltline.

The church will be on your right, just a block South of the Beltline.
